After a long unusual hiatus of four years, the Asia Cup 2022 is finally announced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The Asia Cup 2022 is the 15th edition of the tournament and it was initially scheduled to take place in September 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

ACC confirmed that the multi-nation tournament would be played from August 27 to September 11 in the United Arab Emirates with the original hosts Sri Lanka retaining their hosting rights. The ACC unanimously decided to shift Asia Cup 2022 from Sri Lanka to UAE, considering the current situation in Sri Lanka. India, who beat Bangladesh in the 2018 edition, is the defending champions of Asia Cup 2022.
This 15th edition is extremely important as this year’s Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format. This will be the only second time the tournament will be held in the 20-overs format. This switch in formats will also help the participating teams in preparing for the all-important mega event adequately i.e. T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia which will begin on October 22 in Australia.

India and Pakistan will renew their rivalry a day later on August 28, 2022, in Dubai. The match against Pakistan will be India’s first fixture in the Asia Cup 2022. 2 games of Esports were a demonstration event at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. Now, Esports will make its debut at the Asian Games 2022.
The eight medal games are PUBG Mobile (An Asian game version), FIFA (made by EA SPORTS), Arena of Valor (An Asian game version), Dream Three Kingdoms 2, HearthStone and Street Fighter V, DOTA 2 and League of Legends. Firstly, Esports was added to the Asian Games sports programme at the OCA General Assembly in Muscat, Oman on December 16, 2020. It was a demonstration sport at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018, In other words, medals did not count in the official medal rankings.
The Director-General of the OCA, Mr Husain Al-Musallam, said: “We hope that this announcement allows all participating teams ample time to prepare and equip themselves ahead of the qualifying stages. Above all, I believe we have ticked all the right boxes ensuring a high level of competition which promises great viewing for enthusiasts and casuals alike.

MPL plans to use the funds to finance global expansion, invest in technology and strengthen its footprint in India, the world’s largest market for game downloads with an estimated 840 million installs in June.
Mobile esports and skill gaming platform Mobile Premier League (MPL) has reached a pre-money valuation of $2.3bn (~£1.7bn) after a Series E funding round led by Legatum Capital.
MPL come in the news when they picked Virat Kohli as Brand Ambassador.
The latest funding achievement for the Indian gaming and esports company grants it unicorn status – a privately held startup worth over $1bn – becoming the second Indian gaming startup to do so.
MPL is a skill-based mobile gaming platform offering players a chance to compete in tournaments and matches for prizes. It includes both esports and casual gaming titles, as well as traditional games like sudoku and chess.
In July, MPL launched operations in the US and recently completed two years of operations in Indonesia. MPL has over 90 million registered users globally.
MPL did not release details about the funding round, but the company is reported to have raised $150 million (~£110m), according to sources at GamesBeat.
The Series E funding round was led by Legatum Capital, an investment firm based in Dubai. Accrete Capital, Gaingels, and existing investors, including Moore Strategic Ventures LLC and RTP Global participated, per business data platform Crunchbase.

The news comes after a Series D funding round in February raised $95 million (~£69m) and valued the company at $945 million (~£684m). MPL aims to reach 300,000 users and $100 million in gross merchandise revenue by the end of the year.
