Cheteshwar Pujara’s career in County Championship 2022:
The Indian test team superstar & Captain of the Sussex team, Cheteshwar Pujara signed a contract with Sussex on Mar 10, 2022, for the County Championship 2022 and Royal London One-Day Cup competition, he replaced Australian batsman Travis Head in the team.
Cheteshwar Pujara – The County Championship Division Two 2022
Pujara dominated bowlers in the County Championship Division Two. Representing his county Sussex in his debut season, the India Test specialist has smashed 1,094 runs in eight matches at an average of 109.40, which includes three double-hundreds & two hundred. He also slammed a double hundred against Middlesex – his third double ton in county cricket and his 16th overall in first-class cricket.
Royal London One-Day Cup competition:
Captain of the Sussex team Cheteshwar Pujara has been in sensational form in the ongoing English domestic One-Day Cup. Pujara is in the form of his life, playing dazzling innings one after another. The 34-year-old has smashed more than 500 runs in the ongoing Royal London One-Day Cup this season while playing for Sussex.
Pujara slammed a big hundred off just 75 balls, scoring 132 against Middlesex on Tuesday, Aug 23, during which he also crossed 5000 runs in List A cricket since making his debut for West Zone in the Deodhar Trophy in 2006. Pujara now averages an incredible 57.48 in List A cricket, narrowly behind Australia great Michael Bevan’s average of 57.86.
Cheteshwar Pujara – The Royal London One-Day Cup 2022
Over the year, while Cheteshwar Pujara’s reputation as a Test specialist has grown tremendously, his limited-overs career has almost spiralled. Pujara hasn’t played in the Indian Premier League(IPL) for years and his last limited-overs appearance for India came way back in 2014. Given Pujara’s credentials, his latest exploits in One-Day cricket are grabbing eyeballs.
The right-handed batter has recorded hundreds against Warwickshire (107), Surrey (174) and Middlesex (132) and have all come at a strike rate in excess of 130. And the kind of form he is currently in, Pujara is definitely shattering the ‘labels’ bestowed upon him.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s Score in the Royal London One-Day Cup
Pujara’s exploits have fetched him appreciation from all corners. As #CheteshwarPujara started trending on Twitter, Wisden India tweeted in awe of the batsman’s form and wrote “Innings – 8, runs – 614, average – 102.33, SR – 116.28, hundreds – 3, the Fifties – 2, Cheteshwar Pujara is smashing runs for fun in 2022 Royal London ODI Cup” followed by fire emojis.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s scintillating form has powered Sussex to the semi-final, having topped Group A standings with 12 points from eight matches. Pujara is currently the second-highest run-getter in the ongoing 50-over tournament and is only 44 runs behind leading run-scorer Stephen Eskinazi of Middlesex.
English County Championship Division Two competition:
Before sensational form in the ongoing English domestic One-Day Cup, Pujara had phenomenal form in the County Championship Division Two 2022 as well.
Cheteshwar Pujara – The County Championship Division Two 2022
Cheteshwar Pujara also has the second-most runs to his name. County cricket revived a down-and-out Pujara’s cricketing career after he was dropped post a poor run in the South Africa Test series. He has played with a positive mindset ever since. And, the results are a testimony to the same. Pujara will not be part of the remaining matches.
Averaging a phenomenal 109.40, Pujara has smacked 1,094 runs across 13 innings. He has slammed five hundred, including 3 double-tons, which is the most by a batter in the ongoing tournament. He also has the joint-second-most fours alongside Nottinghamshire’s Haseeb (135). His scores in the tournament read as 6, 201*, 109, 12, 203, 16, 170*, 3, 46, 231, 2, 49, and 46*.

Following his impressive run in the County Championships, Pujara made a comeback to India’s Test team for the rescheduled fifth and final Test against England at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in July. India went on to lose the match in which Pujara scored 13 and 66 in the two innings.

How the Champions League group stage draw works (from UEFA):
The draw features 32 teams: 26 teams given direct entry to the group stage and the six winners of the play-off ties.
The teams have been split into four seeding pots. Pot 1 consists of the holders, the UEFA Europa League winners and the champions of England, Italy, Germany, France, Portugal and Netherlands. Pots 2 to 4 were determined by the club coefficient rankings.
In the case of associations with two representatives, clubs will be paired to split their matches between Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Where associations have three representatives, only two clubs will be paired. In the case of associations with four or five representatives, two pairings will be made. These pairings are to be based on TV audiences.
No team can play a side from their association. Any other restrictions will be announced ahead of the draw.

All roads during the 2022/23 tournament will lead to Turkey.
The next UEFA Champions League final will take place on 10 June 2023 at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, a place which holds special memories for Liverpool.
The venue was the location for their famous 2005 Champions League triumph, where they fought back from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan on penalties.

How does Russia’s ban affect Champions League places?
Due to the war in Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA announced in February that Russia would be indefinitely banned from competition on both an international and a club level. On May 2, UEFA announced that Russian clubs were disqualified from competing in the 2022/23 editions of all European tournaments.
With Russia’s two slots vacated, it left one gap in the group stage and one gap in the third qualifying round. The group stage place was filled by the highest-ranking qualifier left in the playoff round (Scotland’s league champion).
Ironically enough, that put Ukraine next in line to get a group stage spot when Real Madrid won the 2021/22 tournament and qualified from its league. So in addition to Scotland, Ukraine was the biggest beneficiary of Russia’s exclusion.
Ukraine’s place in the competition took some resolving, as the league was suspended on Feb. 24 due to the war, and it was officially abandoned on April 26. The Ukrainian Football League decided to award its two Champions League places to the top two teams in the table as of the suspension of the league, with Shakhtar Donetsk in first and Dynamo Kyiv in second.
